° Founding Corporate Membership Drive (May to September 2009)
In recognition of their involvement in BCA’s Green Mark programme, SGBC extended invitations to over 400 local and international companies between May and October 2009. As a result of the Founding Board’s active outreach, prior to the launch of the Council, SGBC received applications from 141 founding corporate members, 28 of whom are also founding sponsors.
The Council’s Founding Diamond Sponsors are City Developments Limited, CapitaLand Limited and Keppel Land who are strong environmental champions.
Even prior to the launch, a number of Founding Members have expressed keen interests in participating in the technical work that the Council would be undertaking.

° SGBC Appreciation Dinner for Founding Patron, Sponsors and Members (27 October 2009)
A dinner in appreciation of the Singapore Green Building Council’s (SGBC) Founding Members was held on 27th October 2009 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel, together with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). SGBC was honoured to have the SGBC Founding Patron, Singapore’s Minister for National Development, Mr Mah Bow Tan, as the Guest-of-Honour and Mr Tony Arnel, Chair of the WorldGBC as SGBC’s special guest.
Certificates of appreciation were awarded to all Founding Members, and a special plaque was awarded to each Founding Sponsor and Founding Patron in recognition of their significant commitment.

° SGBC Appreciation Dinner for Founding Patron, Sponsors and Members (27 October 2009)
The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) expressed its interest to be affiliated with the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) in April 2009, and was accepted in May 2009. It was formally registered with the Registry of Societies in Singapore and incorporated as a non-profit organisation in the same month.
The SGBC applied for the status of an ‘Emerging Member’ of WorldGBC. At the same time, invitations for founding members and sponsors were extended in mid-July 2009. In August, Mr Mah Bow Tan, Singapore’s Minister for National Development, was invited to be the SGBC’s Founding Patron.
In September, the SGBC was formally recognised as an ‘Emerging Member’ in the WorldGBC network and the following month saw its inauguration at the International Green Building Conference held in Singapore from 26-30 October 2009.
The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) was formally launched as the World GBC’s latest Asian Emerging Member council on 28 October 2009. SGBC was honoured to have Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean officiate at the launch.

° SIA-SGBC Roundtable (30 October 2009)
Representatives from several Asian GBCs were in Singapore for a Roundtable discussion on Sustainable and Green Architecture, jointly organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and SGBC. The following initiatives were discussed:
- Challenges and Opportunity of Global Warming, Climate Change and Sustainability at both the
local and global level for the profession
- Green Rating tools- A sharing of experience in implementation & practice
- Sustainability within a diversity of nations-cultural & economic interdependence
° Presentation of SGBC at World Green Building international Congress
(09- 10 November 2009)
The SGBC was formally presented at the World Green Building Congress in Phoenix, USA in November. Over 400 representatives from the various GBCs attended the two-day event.
° SGBC Retreat (25 November 2009)
Members of the SGBC Founding Board got together on 25th November at the Building and Construction Authority’s Boardroom for a corporate retreat, with the purpose of setting out strategic objectives for the coming year.
